Tigers Add Win with Rout of DePauw
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg Men's Lacrosse shared the wealth offensively as the host Tigers beat DePauw in blowout fashion thanks to eight different Wittenberg players finding the back of the net. Six of the host Tigers' goal scorers finished with more than tally in the game. With the win, both Tiger teams have almost identical records. Wittenberg is now 5-8 (2-5 NCAC), and DePauw falls to 5-9 (2-5 NCAC).
Wittenberg started the scoring on a goal from Dillon McKeigue (Olmstead Township, OH / St. Edward) only two minutes into the game. Despite DePauw tying the game, Wittenberg went on to add another four goals in the quarter while holding DePauw to two. To start the second quarter, DePauw scored on a man-up attempt, but Wittenberg put up another seven unanswered goals in the quarter with Nathan Brown (Dublin, OH / Coffman) and Nicholas Langenderfer (Montgomery, OH / St. Xavier) each netting two goals. To start the second half, Wittenberg held DePauw scoreless for the entirety of the third quarter while scoring three of their own to increase the lead to 15-3 entering the final quarter of play. Wittenberg again scored five goals in the fourth frame to only two for DePauw as Clay Habben (Shawnee, KS / Shawnee Mission Northwest) scored his two goals in the fourth.
McKeigue ran away with the team lead in goals, scoring six goals, as he found the back of the net at least once in each quarter. Brown added another four goals on the day, while Habben, Langenderfer, Ty Harris (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore) and Blake Roller (New Albany, OH / St. Charles) each scored twice. McKeigue, Brown, and Roller tied each other for the team lead in assists as well, with each player recording two. Tripp Salowich (Plymouth, MI / Canton) and Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) paced the team in ground balls with five each.
When it comes to statistics, not only did Wittenberg run away with the win, they also led in every statistical category, aside from face-off violations, where the teams tied with three. The Tigers converted on 96.2% of clears, went 100% on man-up opportunities, and won 64.3% of face-offs throughout the game.
The Tigers will take the field again on Saturday, April 26th, as they take on the Kenyon Owls for their Senior Recognition Game at 1:00 p.m.
