SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Tigers played host to the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan in search of their first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win of the season. However, Ohio Wesleyan took the lead from the start and never looked back, defeating Wittenberg by a score of 22-7. The result puts Wittenberg at 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC.
In the first quarter, the Battling Bishops found the back of the net six times, but in the last minute of the quarter Aidan Kruse (Loveland, OH / Loveland) and Ethan Pac (Greenwood, IN / Cathedral) each scored to cut the lead to four heading into the second. Ohio Wesleyan stayed consistent with another six goals in the second quarter, while Wittenberg's lone second quarter goal came from Dillon McKeigue (Olmstead Township, OH / St. Edward) to make it 12-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Wittenberg was held scoreless until the fourth quarter where both Pac and McKeigue added a goal to their total and Blake Roller (New Albany, OH / St. Charles) added another two goals in the last two minutes of play to make the final score 22-7 in favor of the Battling Bishops.
Team Leaders
- Pac, McKeigue, and Roller each found the back of the net twice to share the lead in goals.
- Brad Ramsey (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) logged an assist to have the team lead as well.
- Max Benincasa (Shaker Heights, OH / Shaker Heights) paced the team in ground balls with five and Pac was right behind with four.
- Benincasa also led the team in caused turovers along with Ethan Amidon (Rochester, NY / Brighton) as they each had two.
Team Comparison
- Ohio Wesleyan led the Tigers in almost all statistics aside from saves, which Wittenberg led 12-4. The Tigers also had the lead in caused turnovers, 6-4.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 15th, as they travel to Hiram to take on a the Terriers with the game set to start at 7:00 p.m.
