Springfield, OH - Wittenberg Men's Soccer was looking to extend its season-opening unbeaten streak to 11 games, but after a hard fought game that went down to the wire, the visiting Little Giants pulled out a 2-1 win thanks to a goal in the final minutes. The Tigers added a notch to the loss column for the first time this season to drop to 7-1-3 (0-1-0 NCAC) and Wabash moved to 5-6-0 (1-0-0 NCAC).
In the first half, neither team generated many chances to score, but Wabash managed to capitalized on one of its two legitimate scoring opportunities with a beautifully played left-footed cross to a strong header.
In the second half, play opened up a bit, and both teams generated some great scoring opportunities. In one sequence, a point blank shot by a Wittenberg player was actually blocked by his own teammate in the goal mouth, and in another sequence, Wabash hit the woodwork twice in the span of about five seconds. In the 80th minute game a breakthrough for the Tigers as Asher Donahue (Muncie, IN / Burris Laboratory School) tied the game with his eighth goal of the season. Donahue had his back to goal near the top of the penalty area after taking a short pass from Cameron Corey (Lancaster, OH / Amanda-Clearcreek), and he surprised the Wabash goalkeeper with by doing a 180-turn and shot into the bottom left corner of the net. However, Wabash had the answer as the Little Giants exploited some space in the Tigers' defensive third and slotted home the aftermentioned game-winner.
