SPRINGFIELD, OH. – Defense tightened up for both Wittenberg and Kenyon in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday night under the lights at Edwards-Maurer Field, with neither team able to kick in the winning goal and end in a 2-2 draw.
It was the second NCAC tie in a row for Wittenberg, which goes to 0-2-2 in the conference. Kenyon is 0-2-1 in the league. The Tigers have lost to Kenyon in the past 16 meetings and last tied them, 0-0, in 2007. They last defeated the Owls in 2006, 2-1.
Junior Collin LaVeck (Carroll, OH / Bloom-Carroll) had a big night for the Tigers, scoring both of their goals, unassisted.
Each team scored one in the first and one in the second, with the Owls denting the scoreboard first at the 21:27 mark of the first. Ten minutes later, LaVeck and the Tigers answered with a goal of their own to tie things at 1-all. LaVeck struck again at the 48:32 mark of the second to give Witt a 2-1 lead. However, Kenyon would answer less than a minute later to make it 2-2.
LaVeck and Asher Donahue (Muncie, IN / Burris Laboratory School) each had two shots, two on goal to lead Wittenberg, now 7-2-5 overall.
Kenyon had its chances in the second half with 11 shots. For the game, the Owls held a 17-5 advantage in shots and in corner kicks, 6-3. Fouls were mostly even, with Kenyon having 13 to Witt's 12.
The Tigers' goalkeeper Aidan Rice (Dublin, OH / Saint Charles) had six saves on the night to just three for the Owls, who are 4-3-5 overall on the season.
