Wittenberg Falls to No. 22 Denison in Season Finale Showdown
GRANVILLE, OH – Wittenberg's women's lacrosse team closed out the season on the road facing off against the tough No. 22 ranked Denison in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon, April 26, at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
The Big Red came out firing on all cylinders, striking for 14 goals in the first quarter and coasting to a 22-3 victory over the Tigers. Wittenberg was held scoreless in the first quarter and couldn't muster much offense against the Denison defense, scoring one goal in each of the final three quarters. Denison continued to control the pace, adding eight more goals to their tally in posting the big win.
With the loss, the Tigers finished the season at 4-12 overall and 0-7 in the NCAC, while Denison improved to 12-4 overall and maintained a perfect 6-0 record in the conference to advance to the postseason tournament.
Team Leaders
- Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook), Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange), and Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) each scored for the Tigers.
- Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) had two assists and Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) had the other.
- Stager led the team in ground balls with five. She also had a team-high four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, OH / Bishop Hartley) and Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, OH / Hayes) each tallied four saves on the night.

- Totals for the Tigers included three assists, nine shots, seven on goal, 11 ground balls, seven draw controls, and four caused turnovers. They were 0-for-2 on free-position shots.
- Denison tallied 13 assists, 44 shots, 30 on goal, 19 ground balls, 22 draw controls, and 13 caused turnovers. The Big Red were 2-for-3 in free-position shots and their goalies tallied four saves.
