Tigers Unable to Complete Weekend Sweep
Winchester, VA-After winning their first two games of the weekend at the Shenandoah Invitational, Wittenberg took on number 19 ranked SUNY Cortland in their final game of the weekend. In the end, the Tigers lost 5-0 with all five runs coming within the first four innings of play. With the outcome, both team's records become 4-2 on the season.
The starting pitcher for the Tigers was Mikey Eickhoff (Akron, OH / St. Vincent-St. Mary), who threw three and one-third innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and five earned runs while recording six strikeouts. The Tigers used five pitchers in releif of Eickhoff, four of which threw a minimum for a full inning. In his single inning of owrk to close out the game, Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) struck out two batters and did not allow a hit or walk any batters.
At the plate, a few Tigers recorded hits, including James MacAuley (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI / Grosse Pointe North), who recorded two singles, coming in the third and sixth innings. Chilicki was the only Wittenberg player to record an extra base hit with a double coming in the eighth inning. Despite the team recording a total of seven hits, they were unable to string anything together, as the SUNY Cortland pitching staff was able to record 14 strikeouts, ten of which were recorded by the starting pitcher, Luis Misla..
The Tigers next game will be an amway game where they take on Centre on Wednesday, March 5th with the first ptich time set for 6:00 PM.
