Wittenberg Sets School Record With Sixth Straight Shutout Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - For the sixth straight game, the Wittenberg Tigers were nearly flawless on defense. On the heels of a 2-0 home win over Capital, Wittenberg improved to 7-0 on the season and established a school record of six consecutive shutouts.
The Tigers, ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region in the Sept. 13 NSCAA poll, were dominant again in this game. Wittenberg held a commanding 17-3 advantage in shots while attempting eight corner kicks to Capital's one. Sophomore Meghan O'Rourke was forced into just two saves as the defensive unit in front of her was stellar again.
Offensively, the Tigers picked up a first-half goal from senior Lindsay Zigler on a header off a pass from leading scorer Lisa Rusch, a sophomore forward. In the second half, the insurance goal came courtesy of freshman Allison Macke as she found the back of the net without the aid of a direct assist.
The Tigers are now just four wins short of the best start in school history, turned in when the 1995 team opened what eventually was a 15-3 overall record with 11 straight victories.
