Wittenberg Softball Season Ends at Hands of Denison
Granville, OH - The Tigers took on the Denison Big Red for the second time in two days at the 2025 NCAC Softball Tournament. After defeating the Big Red 7-1 in a first roun upsetd, the Tigers had to win again in order to make it to the championship game. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to repeat their success, falling 9-1 in a five-inning game, thus ending the Tigers' season.
Lilly Shaw (Washington Courthouse, OH / Washington) started in the circle for the Tigers and threw one inning, allowing only one earned run. However, a total of six runs crossed the plate in the inning on five hits and a walk. Lilly James (Troy, OH / Troy) threw the remaining three innings for Wittenberg, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out one batter. At the plate, the Tigers started off strong, scoring one run in the top of the first on a Hanna Ecker (Heath, OH / Heath) single, but Denison added two more runs in the second to finish the scoring and make the final 9-1.
Team Leaders
- Four different Tigers each had one hit to lead the team: Ecker, Julia Burch (Dublin, OH / Jerome), Samantha Zungri (Canal Winchester, OH / Canal Winchester) and Shannon Flaherty (Burlington, KY / Saint Henry District).
- Ecker had the only RBI for the Tigers and Meghan McCans (Arcanum, OH / Arcanum) was the only Wittenberg player to score a run.
Team Comparison
- The Big Red had the lead over the Tigers in every statistical category aside from walks, as both teams drew one.
Wittenberg's season came to a close with records of 27-14 overall and 8-6 in the NCAC.
