Men's Volleyball Shines with 3-0 Win on Senior Night
SPRINGFIELD, OH — The Wittenberg Men's Volleyball team celebrated senior night with a 3-0 victory over Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) member Olivet on Friday night, improving the Tigers' conference record to 3-1. The Tigers improved their overall standing to 16-10, including a sparkling 12-2 record on their home floor.
The Tigers earned the sweep by scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-19. Prior to the match, Wittenberg Men's Volleyball celebrated senior libero Aaron Miller (West Chester, OH/ Lakota West) and senior student manager Ava Hampton for their contributions to the program. Miller then took the court with the starting lineup and contributed three digs and three assists to the winning effort.
The Tigers turned in a stellar hitting percentage of .485 for the match. Olivet, on the other hand, had a rough night against a stout Wittenberg defense, landing just 17 kills against 14 hitting errors for a percentage of .049.
Team Leaders
- Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) led the team with 11 kills on 17 total attacks. Yurk led the team in points with 13.0 and added one service ace, two digs, and one solo block.
- Zach Newton (Morgantown, WV / Franklin Community) led the team with five digs. Newton had seven total attacks, four kills, two service aces, and six points.
- Eli Halverson (Hamilton, OH / Badin) followed behind Yurk with nine kills on 15 total attacks. Halverson also had an impressive 10.5 points, five digs, one service ace, one assist and one block assist.
- Carson Hill (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in assists with 14 and added four kills on seven total attacks, three digs, and one block assists.
