Records Continue to Fall at Midnight Qualifier
ROCK ISLAND, IL - Wittenberg's men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Illinois to compete in the Midwest Twilight Qualifier for their last meet of the regular season and a final preparation for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. As they have been doing all season, Wittenberg student-athletes broke three more records in the meet. On the men's side, Jack Kittle (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) broke the Wittenberg record in the 400 meters, while Meghan Frazier (Alliance, OH / Alliance) again highlighted the women's performances as she broke the 200-meter dash record and was part of the record breaking 4x100-meter relay team as well.
In his record-setting 400-meter dash, Kittle finished in a time of 47.11, good for second place in the meet and 12th in all of NCAA Division III. Elijah Simmons (Jacksonville, FL / Groveport) took 12th place in the 200-meter dash and set a new PR with a time of 21.50. Justin Norris (Middletown, OH / Middletown Christian) took second in high jump, as he leaped to a height of 2.02 meters. Bryce Ray (Sun City, FL / Sumner) took first in the long jump with a mark of 7.03 meters to run away with it.
For the women, the first broken record of the meet was the 4x100-meter relay, in which the team of Frazier, Zora Shakhan (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington Central), Lindsey Magoteaux (Sidney, OH / Lehman Catholic), and Izzy Henderson (East Liberty, OH / Benjamin Logan) took fifth with a time of 47.18. Henderson also took 12th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.58. The next record for the women was broken by Frazier, who finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.70, which is top-50 in NCAA Division III. Henderson also took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters.
The NCAA Divison III Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set to begin Thursday, May 22, in Geneva, Ohio, at the SPIRE Institute.
