Tiger Men's Golf Off to Slow Start in Spring Openers
Savannah, GA - Wittenberg Men's Golf traveled to Savannah, Georgia, to compete in the Savannah Invitational, in which 20 teams competed, 15 of which are in the top 25. The Tigers also competed in the Port City Classic, where 17 teams competed, five of which are in the top 25. The team split into two groups to compete in both tournaments hosted by Berry College. In the Savannah Invitational, the team finished in 18th out of 20 total teams with a score of 901 over three rounds, at 37 over par. In the Port City Classic, the team finished 15th out of 17 with a score of 946 through three rounds, for 94 over par.
At the Savannah Invitational, the top finisher for Wittenberg was freshman Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark), finishing tied for 48th with rounds of 76, 70 and 77 for a total of 223 at seven over par. Next was Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, OH / Akron Hoban), who shot rounds of 76, 73 and 77 for a total of 226 at ten over to finish tied for 64th. Tied for 68th was Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) at 11 over with scores of 80, 74 and 73 for 227 total strokes. Ryan Miller (Dublin, OH / Jerome) tied for 77th with a total of 229 and 13 over par with round scores of 80, 72 and 77. Rounding out the field for the Tigers was Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH / Jerome) with scores of 80, 79 and 73 for a total of 232, at 16 over par to finished tied for 88th out of 100.
In the Port City Classic, who had 94 total competitors, Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, OH / McDonald) had the best finish for the Tigers tied for 31st at 17 over par with scores of 72, 81 and 76 for a total of 230. Austin Georger (Appleton, WI / Appleton West) finished tied for 61st with scores of 83, 80 and 75 for a total of 238, to be at 25 over. The next Wittenberg finisher was David Walterhouse (Statham, GA / Bethlehem Christian Academy), who shot a total of 242 to be 29 over par and tied for 69th along with Brady Hinkel (Springboro, OH / Springboro), who carded rounds of 81, 78 and 83. Alex Rath (Dublin, OH / Scioto) scored 243 with rounds of 76, 85 and 82 to end tied for 74th at 30 over. The final finisher for the Tigers was Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder), who tied for 79th at 32 over par with rounds of 84, 82 and 79 for 245 total strokes.
Men's Golf will compete next at the Tiger Invitational at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina on March 9th and 10th, hosted by Hampden-Sydney.
