RALEIGH, N.C. – On the road again, Wittenberg's field hockey team dropped another match to host Meredith College in North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Avenging Angels put their first goal on the board at the 3:17 mark of the first period. The Tigers answered the call, landing one in the cage at the 18:01 mark in the second period on a goal by Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, OH / Bexley) to tie things at 1-1. However, Meredith would tighten up its defense and control the next two periods while scoring another in the third and two more in the fourth to capture the 4-1 victory.
Meredith ended with 31 shots, 16 on goal, and seven penalty corners. Wittenberg had 10 shots, five on goal, and four penalty corners. The Angels also racked up 44 fouls to just 28 for the Tigers.
With the loss, Wittenberg falls to 0-7 on the season, while Meredith improved to 5-4 overall.
Wittenberg got 12 saves from goalkeeper Taryn Toburen (Lititz, PA / Warwick) on the day. Aysha Johnson(Kettering, OH / Fairmont), Krasnow, Devyn Groves (La Grange, KY / Oldham County Senior), and Lexi Cutler(Farmington Hills, MI / North Farmington) each took two shots in the game.
Next up, Wittenberg will again play at Meredith College, this time taking on St. Mary's in an 11 a.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 28.
