Johnson, Singery Named NFHCA Scholars Of Distinction

SPRINGFIELD, OH - Two Wittenberg University field hockey student-athletes have been recognized for their superior academic performance by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Aysha Johnson (Kettering, OH / Fairmont) and Lauren Singery (Johannesburg, South Africa / Bryanston) were among 550 undergraduate student-athletes from 135 institutions who have achieved recognition as 2024 Division III Scholars of Distinction, which celebrates student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 of higher.
Johnson is a sophomore listed as a defender on the roster who also plays in the midfield for the Tigers. After appearing in 10 games as a freshman in 2023, Johnson appeared in all 14 games in 2024, starting five of them. She recorded four points on one goal and two assists during the season. Singery, a sophomore who also splits her time between the defensive backline and the midfield, has come off the bench to appear in 21 games over the course of her first two seasons in the Red & White.
In Head Coach Brighid Kortyna's first year as head coach, the Tigers finished third in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season standings with an 8-2 record in 2024. Wittenberg saw its season come to a dramatic close with a 1-0 overtime loss to second-seeded Denison in the NCAC Tournament semifinals. The Tigers posted an overall record of 11-3.
