Mario Getaw Nominated for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
Springfield, Ohio – Recently graduated linebacker Mario Getaw (Washington, MI / Eisenhower) has been recognized for his fine work both on and off the field by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as one of 197 student-athletes from across the country nominated for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was created 34 years ago to publicize the stories of football student-athletes making an impact on the field and in their communities. A voting panel consisting of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members will select a Good Works Team with a final roster including 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA to be announced in September.
Getaw was nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in recognition of his leadership organizing a community service activity for the Wittenberg Football team last year. Getaw worked with the team's coaching staff to host a special event for Developmental Disabilities of Clark County team in August 2024. The event took place on the final day of the Tigers' preseason camp, as local residents with developmental disabilities had the opportunity to suit up in the Wittenberg Red & White and go through low-impact drills in The Steemer.
Getaw was a three-year letterwinner for the Tigers. After rushing for 165 yards as a sophomore running back in 2022, Getaw moved to the defensive side of the ball for his last two seasons. As a senior captain in 2024, Getaw started all 10 games, recording 16 solo tackles and 28 total stops on the season. After the season, Getaw earned CSC Academic All-District honors and induction into the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Society in recognition of his excellent academic performance.
The Tigers finished 6-4 overall in 2024 and 5-3 in the NCAC, good for fourth place in the league standings.
